Honored to Represent Bangladesh at the 68th UN Women’s Conference

A distinguished 3-member team, led by the esteemed Founder and Executive Director of TMSS, Prof. Dr. Hosne-Ara Begum, has embarked on a mission to America to participate in the prestigious 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women organized by the United Nations.

From March 11th to March 22nd, 2024, the world will witness a pivotal gathering focused on the theme “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective”.

During this session, Prof. Dr. Hosne-Ara Begum, the esteemed Ashoka Fellow, PHF, and AKS recipient and a prominent figure in social development, will deliver a powerful speech aimed at empowering women not only in Bangladesh but globally. With 10.3 percent of women worldwide living in extreme poverty, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 requires urgent action to address gender inequality. Despite Bangladesh’s commendable economic progress, significant portions of the population still grapple with poverty, largely due to gender disparities. Professor Begum emphasizes the critical need to bolster the capacity and funding of women-centric institutions for sustainable women’s development.

Accompanying Dr. Begum in this crucial endeavor are esteemed leaders: Professor Nasima Akhter Jolly, Vice-Chairman of TMSS Board of Directors and Director of The Hunger Project-Bangladesh, and Lion Aysha Begum, Advisor to TMSS Board of Directors.

Their presence at this global platform not only highlights Bangladesh’s strides towards achieving the SDGs by 2030 but also underscores the importance of soliciting international guidance to foster gender equality and alleviate poverty.
