On August 13, 2024, a significant discussion meeting took place with leading representatives from around 2,000 NGOs, including members of The Federation of NGOs in Bangladesh (FNB) and the Credit and Development Forum (CDF). The conversation highlighted the crucial role that NGO-Microfinance Institutions (NGO-MFIs) play in the national economy, particularly at the grassroots level. Despite their efforts to ensure access to finance and combat unemployment, this sector continues to face neglect, contributing to growing inequality and hindering the desired development of the rural economy. A key concern raised was the challenge posed by unsecured sensitive loans, which impact the sector's ability to secure fair and just rights. However, the speakers emphasized that the present moment offers a crucial opportunity to address these issues. The meeting concluded with a call to action, welcoming the Interim Revolutionary Government to support and strengthen this vital sector. A special mention goes to TMSS Executive Director, Prof. Dr. Hosne-Ara Begum, who played an instrumental role in this crucial dialogue.
