The Extended Community Climate Change Project (ECCCP)

Unveiling the Successes and Challenges of ECCCP Flood Program: A Recap of the National Workshop

The Extended Community Climate Change Project (ECCCP) Flood program, spearheaded by 12 NGOs including TMSS and managed by Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), has been making strides in addressing climate change challenges. Funded by the United Nations Green Climate Fund (GCF), this initiative aims to mitigate the impacts of flooding in vulnerable communities.

Recently, a two-day national workshop was convened at a prestigious hotel in Cox’s Bazar, shedding light on the achievements, prospects, and challenges of the ECCCP Flood program. Dr. Namita Halder NDC, Managing Director of PKSF, Dr. Fazle Rabi Sadek Ahmed, Deputy Managing Director, and Dr. AKM Nuruzzaman, General Manager, graced the occasion alongside officials from the Project Management Unit (PMU).

During the workshop, TMSS Executive Director, Professor Dr. Hosne-Ara Begum, and Lion Ayesha Begum (Adviser (GB-TMSS)) actively participated, reflecting their commitment to the project’s success. From the outset, TMSS ICT and Environment Sector (IES) Head, Nigar Sultana, along with her dedicated team, actively engaged in discussions and deliberations pertaining to the project’s objectives and implementation strategies.

The workshop facilitated insightful discussions on various aspects, including climate vulnerability, community adaptation efforts, technology integration, and coastal resilience. Notably, participants, including former high-ranking government officials (MD, DMD-PKSF), embarked on field visits to coastal areas and seashores, navigating through long, inaccessible roads to observe firsthand the project’s impact on the ground.

As the ECCCP Flood program continues to evolve, such workshops serve as crucial platforms for stakeholders to collaborate, share experiences, and address the evolving challenges posed by climate change. Through concerted efforts and collaborative endeavors, the ECCCP Flood program endeavors to build resilient communities and mitigate the adverse effects of climate-induced disasters.
