TMSS is taking a groundbreaking step in advancing healthcare for women in Bangladesh through the establishment of the TMSS Women’s Health & Research Institute. This visionary project will further strengthen TMSS’s long-standing commitment to healthcare innovation, following the successful implementation of the 1,000-bed TMSS Medical College Hospital and the 250-bed TMSS Cancer Hospital.
Presentation and Signing Ceremony
On 15 September 2025, a presentation on the proposed TMSS Women’s Health & Research Institute was delivered at the chamber of Professor Dr. Syeda Sayeeba Akhter, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Medical Research Council, Dhaka.
The event was attended by:
- Professor Dr. Hosne Ara Begum, Executive Director, TMSS
- Professor Dr. Sanjon K. Das, Advisor, TMSS & Professor at the University of Sheffield
- Dr. Md. Matiur Rahman, PhD, Deputy Executive Director, TMSS
- Other senior TMSS officials
During the discussion, participants highlighted that while Pakistan currently has one dedicated women’s hospital, Bangladesh and India are yet to establish such an institution. The meeting concluded with a unanimous decision to set up a 150-bed dedicated Women’s Hospital under the TMSS Women’s Health & Research Institute.

Why Bangladesh Needs a Women’s Health & Research Institute
Women’s health in Bangladesh faces critical challenges due to limited specialized healthcare facilities. General hospitals provide essential services. However, women often face barriers in accessing tailored treatment. This includes reproductive health, maternal care, and other gender-specific medical conditions. A dedicated Women’s Health & Research Institute will help bridge this gap by:
- Providing comprehensive healthcare services exclusively for women
- Creating a center for advanced research in women’s health and diseases
- Training healthcare professionals with a focus on gender-specific care
- Addressing rising health concerns such as breast and cervical cancer, infertility, and maternal complications
The establishment of this institute will not only improve access to specialized treatment but also strengthen Bangladesh’s position in women’s health research and innovation.
TMSS: Leading Innovation in Healthcare
TMSS has consistently played a pioneering role in healthcare development in Bangladesh. Notably, TMSS established the country’s first Biomolecular Genomic Lab to international standards, setting a benchmark for scientific and medical research. The creation of the TMSS Women’s Health & Research Institute continues this legacy, ensuring that women across Bangladesh benefit from advanced, world-class healthcare.
Looking Ahead
The TMSS Women’s Health & Research Institute is more than a hospital—it is a commitment to building a healthier, stronger, and more inclusive future. By focusing on women’s healthcare needs and advancing medical research, TMSS continues to lead with vision and responsibility.
