TMSS Renewable Energy Program (TREP)

About Us

TMSS is maintaining all its activities by 14 Domains. Under program-1 domain including TMSS Renewable Energy Program (TREP) we have certain programs those are engaged with electrification by renewable energy and various types of development works. ¬ TREP is one of the major programs of this domain which is named as SHS (Solar Home System) program. Also we have more programs like Lighting facility for Hill tracts people, Safe water supply Project powered by Solar energy, Solar Irrigation Pump Project (SIPP) and Community Development Program which is called as CDP.

Background:

Renewable energy is energy which comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves and geothermal heat, which are renewable (naturally replenished). About 16% of global final energy consumption comes from renewable. While many renewable energy projects are large-scale in developed countries, renewable technologies are also suited to rural and remote areas, where energy is often crucial in human development like Bangladesh. TMSS–REP is working to promote the Renewable Energy as alternative source of power to address the Global energy problem, especially in Bangladesh. TMSS REP is implementing this program with the Technical assistance of Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) which is non-bank financial institution (NBFI) of Bangladesh Government.

Goal:

Establish the user friendly Renewable Energy with affordable cost for development.

Objectives:

  • Create job opportunities
  • Provide Solar Home System to rural people in affordable cost with soft loan facility
  • Ensure service and development.
  • Number and Type of Target population / beneficiaries:

    People who are deprived of electricity facility and who are sufferer of loadshedding are target population of TREP.

    TMSS has 142 no of unit offices in 133 upazillas in 33 districts (as per April/17).

  • To introduce and promote world’s latest & modern technology on Solar Energy in Bangladesh
  • To organize people from all stages of the society in this
  • To collect various parts & equipments of solar home system on behalf of behalf of mass people and set those in their house
  • To provide long term direct and indirect service to keep the established solar home system running smoothly
  • To do maintenance the equipments of the solar energy / solar home system
  • To create entrepreneur in Local level
  • To facilitate Micro-credit to expand the usage of solar energy
  • To arrange fund flow from donors to the client level to decrease the investment
  • Awareness build up for reducing pollution.
  • Lobbying with Government to give subsidy on Solar Energy related equipments to reduce the cost of solar system.

  • Total 142 unit offices established till April 2017
  • About 60557 SHS set installed
  • About 290674 beneficiaries are enjoying electricity facility
