We are thrilled to share a remarkable milestone achieved through the unwavering dedication and collaborative efforts of TMSS and Smile Train USA. Since July 1, 2010, TMSS, with the invaluable financial and technical support of Smile Train, has been implementing the ‘Smile Train RCH Cleft Project’ through Rafatullah Community Hospital (RCH). The overarching goal of this initiative has been to restore normalcy in the lives of underprivileged children born with cleft lip or palate by providing them with free reconstructive surgery and ensuring their smooth integration into society.
Over the years, Rafatullah Community Hospital has been steadfast in its commitment to delivering free reconstructive surgeries to children in need, thereby fulfilling the core objectives of the project. Moreover, the hospital has continuously organized educational programs to enhance the expertise of doctors and medical professionals in the field of reconstructive surgeries, ensuring sustainable impact and fostering a culture of knowledge exchange and growth.
Recently, we had the privilege of hosting a distinguished team from Smile Train headquarters to commemorate a significant achievement: the completion of 10,000 successful cleft surgeries at TMSS Rafatullah Community Hospital under the Smile Train RCH Cleft Project. This momentous occasion was marked by the presence of esteemed individuals including Dr. Zipporah Njeri Gathuya, Member of the Medical Advisory Board, Smile Train Inc. USA; Dr. Elizabeth Namugaya Igaga, Global Director for Programs Safety, Smile Train Inc. USA; and Shamima Nawsin, Program Manager, Smile Train Inc. USA, Bangladesh Program.
The visit of the Smile Train team served as a testament to the impactful partnership between TMSS and Smile Train, underscoring our shared commitment to transforming lives and making a tangible difference in the communities we serve. Together, we celebrated not just a numerical achievement, but the profound impact that each surgery has had on the lives of children and their families, offering them renewed hope, confidence, and opportunities for a brighter future.
