‘Solar Light Trap’ technology: TMSS producing non-toxic vegetable
The stories behind the availability of fresh vegetables in the market are different. Insects and diseases are the biggest obstacles for farmers in producing these beautiful and delicious vegetables. Therefore, vegetable growers apply toxic pesticides to protect the crop. But there is no pesticide that is more or less harmful to the human body. Pesticides are used indiscriminately without realizing it. According to agriculturalist, pesticides are currently being used in large quantities in vegetables. On the other hand, vegetables are picked and eaten without any waiting period. However, almost every pesticide has more or less residual effect. As in the case of other crops, like vegetables, fruits, betel, etc., the use of pesticides is making our lives more dangerous every day. Because most of these crops we eat raw or directly or cooked a little. If not, there is a risk of losing its nutritional value. Food science and nutrition experts say that it is advisable to eat vegetables at least 15 to 21 days after application of pesticides. But in this case it is not being accepted. Eating habits these vegetables can cause terrible diseases including kidney and liver damage, heart disease and cancer. In addition, overuse of pesticides poses a serious threat to the environment.
TMSS has been working tirelessly for a long time to produce non-toxic vegetables to make food safer. TMSS thinks that if full grown insects can be killed by attracting pheromones, then it is possible to grow many kinds of vegetables by spraying a little at intervals of several days or before spraying if necessary to prevent insect reproduction before fertilization. Light traps are a popular, simple, environmental friendly method of identifying, monitoring and controlling pests. Following this, TMSS and Donor organization PKSF have set up ‘Solar Light Trap’ at Chupinagar of Shajahanpur and Kanupur of Sherpur Upazila in Bogura under ‘PACE’ project.
ABM Mahmudul Hasan, an agriculturalist of TMSS PACE project said that TMSS is working through various projects to create awareness among the farmers. The light trap method is one of them. This method can be used to easily identify and control crop pests. The new and modern solar powered light traps have been invented for the convenience of farmers. The use of solar light trap was started in 2019 which is still working. In the future, the process of producing non-toxic vegetables will be further expanded with the latest technology. The solar light trap device lasts a long time once installed in the field. It burns automatically in the absence of sunlight and in the evening and goes out at the end of a certain time. The entire technology consists of a solar panel, a battery, a controller, an electric lamp and a combination of kerosene / detergent mixed water and pot and a stand. This technology will make it easier for farmers to control pests in vegetable fields by maintaining the balance of the environment. This will reduce the use of harmful pesticides and keep the environment clean. On the other hand, don’t have to spend a lot of money to buy foreign pesticides. This will reduce the cost of vegetable production for farmers and increase the production of safe vegetables. These activities are being carried out under TMSS and PKSF’s ‘PACE’ project in the respective areas. Agriculturist Mahmudul Hasan expressed that the farmers are being benefited from this and TMSS is developing more production in required to non-toxic vegetables.
